Polyacrylamide (PAM) for Temporary Soil Stabilization CODE 893 893 - 1 DEFINITION The land application of a water soluble anionic or nonionic Polyacrylamide (PAM) as a temporary agent to bind soil particles and reduce erosion. PURPOSE The purpose of this practice is to temporarily stabilize disturbed soils and reduce erosion from wind and water
PAM should not be applied alone for erosion control, but in combination with mulch and seeding. This is especially important on steeper slopes. There are many types of PAMs, each with slightly different properties and ability to react with a specific soil. Be sure to use the PAM that works best on the soil at your site.
Two polyacrylamide (PAM) compounds in which the NH2 was substituted with OH at 2% (2J) and 21% (21J), rendering them negatively charged, were used. Additionally, a guar compound (4246) used in the study was negatively charged and had a lower molecular weight than PAM. The soil was used without pretreatment and also with

PAM is currently used as a soil conditioner on ~800,000 ha 33 of irrigation land in the U.S., corresponding to 900–18,000 tons of PAM per year. PAM binds with soil particles through

Polyacrylamide is a synthetic water-soluble polymer made from monomers of acrylamide. PAM binds soil particles together. Once soil particles suspended in water are bound together by PAM, they settle out, so water has a harder time washing them out of the field. Water-soluble polymers like PAM have been known to benefit soil properties for a
Soil degradation is a significant problem throughout the world. Use of soil amendments, including anionic polyacrylamide (PAM), is one of many options for protecting soil resources. Polyacrylamide has been the focus of a substantial amount of research in the 1990s. Our objective is to present a review of the recent findings
For a given rainfall intensity of 65mm/hr and a mulch rate of 1.5 t/ha, RC reduced runoff and soil loss less than VGM. effect of polyacrylamide (PAM) and the vetiver system as a cheap and long
Additional forms of soil stabilization include the use of cement kiln dust, polyacrylamide, and acrylic copolymers. Research has been conducted on cement kiln dust to determine its effectiveness as a soil stabilizer (Miller and Azad, 2000). Cement kiln dust is a by-product of cement manufacturing.
The PAM-GF reduced soil erosion from berms by 99% when compared with the untreated soil berm (control). Use of PAM alone reduced erosion from berms by approximate to84%; however, erosion with PAM
Polyacrylamide (PAM) has increased soil infiltration in other areas of the U.S., especially where soil erosion is a problem. We applied low concentrations of a high molecular weight, moderately anionic polyacrylamide, the type that is being successfully used for furrow erosion control, in furrow irrigation water on Hanford sandy loam soil.

The soil moisture content and clay content were obsd. to decrease gradually with increasing the burial time. The biodegrdn. test of LBPAA (60 PAA/40 LM) composite exhibited different bacterial colony forming units (CFU), the soil of Tangshan was 2.0 × 103 CFU·g-1 soil, 7.0 × 103 CFU·g-1 soil for Harbin, and 6.10 × 104 CFU·g-1 soil for Sian.
Polyacrylamide characteristics 1: PAM) flocculation can make the suspended material by charge neutralization, adsorption bridging, flocculating action. 2) adhesion: can be through mechanical, physical, chemical role, play the role of adhesion. 3 resistance: PAM can effectively reduce the friction of the fluid, water to join trace PAM can reduce resistance 80% - 50.
The surface elevation of eroding sites decreases while that of aggrading sites increases under significant tillage erosion. Soil denudation rates due to chisel plow can be as high as 3.6–5.9 mm yr−1 for up- and downslope tillage and up to 1.5–2.6 mm yr−1 for contour tillage in soils on 20% slope gradient (Poesen et al., 1997).

During the eighth and last event, in which over 6 cm of rain was recorded, rates of over 50 tons/ha were recorded for a single, intense storm event for the bare soil plots compared to 3-9 tons/ha on the mulched/seeded plots. PAM at the highest rate (11 kg/ha) was effective in reducing erosion and turbidity on the 4:1 cut slope with a clay loam

The lot will be divided into sublots of 1000 tons and randomly sampled for asphalt cement content, density, and gradation according to this subsection except that a determination for outliers will not be performed. ATB quantities of less than 600 tons remaining after dividing the Contract quantity into sublots will be included in the last sublot.
